English For Academic Purposes

English for Academic Purposes is for high school and college students.  The program equips students with knowledge of academic English as well as study skills required to succeed at university or college. It covers areas such as reading comprehension, writing, listening, speaking and grammar vocabulary building. The program focuses on developing critical thinking which is sought – after skill in academic environment.

Further, the program familiarizes you with the campus life, resources and services available to you. Along with this, you also learn note –taking skills as well as other academic skill such as referencing when you are doing your writing assignments.

 

Academic Skills

English for Academic Purposes is for high school and college students.  The program equips students with knowledge and academic English skills required to succeed at university. It covers areas such as reading, writing, listening, and speaking.

Academic reading requires students to read actively so that they can predict what might be said in the text, identify important ideas, understanding the connection of ideas, comparing and contrasting them, evaluating and applying the information.

Poor academic writing skills will surely hurt your academic success and your future career growth.  Most professors require to critique of books and films, research papers, and formal reports related to the content of their courses.  Non –native English speakers, however, often find academic writing assignments very demanding and challenging.

University students will have to listen to both short and long lectures. Listening skills enable students to develop strategies they need before listening, while listening, and after listening. Students learn how to get involved in informal and formal situations at universities including sharing opinions, presenting their research, and giving oral presentations.
